You're memory is spot on, Doris. Some recipes called "original" use 1 teaspoon water, while other recipes that say they are the "original" don't call for the water. Maybe you have an inside track on that true recipe being a Massachusetts native, and you've set us all straight on the original Toll House version. Happy Baking! Irene@KAF
