Hi Brenna, this isn't something we've tried, so it may take a little experimenting. If your canned chopped apples are particularly "saucy," you might consider substituting them for the total amount (by weight) of the apples and applesauce called for in this recipe and perhaps reducing the sugar as well. Alternatively, if the apples are minimally cooked and not very sweet, you could probably drain them and substitute them for the chopped apples called for in the recipe, while puréeing some of them for the applesauce portion of the recipe.
