We're sorry your daughter had trouble with the cookies! We haven't tested these with all oil, but it may have contributed to the grainy consistency. Using a stronger flour (bread, for example) instead of AP, would make them drier, but that may also be a function of the humidity and where you store your flour. If the dough seems dry, we suggest adding a few teaspoons of milk to loosen the batter to the desired consistency. As for the size/time, we do offer a range of times to accommodate most of the sizes, but each oven may vary slightly and either shorten or extend the range. Always check at the earlier time, and use your nose- I find that the best way to check my cookies doneness is to sniff in my kitchen!
