Hi there, Whitlee! The discard start that you get from feeding your sourdough starter doesn't need to be thrown away, you can use it recipes calling for discard! We don't recommend just taking what you need for a recipe from the starter you have on hand, unless it has been fed recently (within the past 6 to 8 hours) as it won't be active enough to leaven your dough.
