Hi Patti, if you mean that you purchased a portion of our historic starter, it should have also come with an instruction booklet. We're sorry if we somehow missed getting that into your package, but you can find a detailed layout of our method here. If your starter originated elsewhere, it may or may not become active in the same amount of time. In either case, if it's still active, it should come back to life within a few days of regular maintenance. Mollie@KAF
