Fed starter is the period after you refresh it with flour and water and it is rising and active (think happy fed kids). Unfed starter is when the starter has fallen back on itself, or has been sitting in the fridge for a a period of time (think unhappy, tired children who need a meal). There may be a number of reasons why your bread didn't work out properly. Give the Hotline a call at 1-855-371-2253 and we can coach you to a successful loaf. Happy baking! Laurie@KAF
