Deb, that remaining 4 ounces is the best amount for about a cup of flour (4 1/4 ounces), plus water, to feed. If you want to retain 8 ounces, simply feed with 2 cups flour and 1 cup water. This amount of food will produce the best balance of healthy growth. Hope this helps - PJH
