I've been trying to get a starter started for 15 days, and not seeing any results. The first night -- rye flour -- was very promising, and the next few nights (all-purpose) seemed on course. But now . . . almost nothing. Some bubbles on top, but hardly any rise. I was using a pyrex bowl with the lid sitting on to, but not sealed. Last night I tried using a Mason jar, covered with the lid, but not sealed. Some bubbling on top, but hardly any rise at all. And it smells like Elmer's Glue. Should I give up and try again? Or any thoughts on salvaging this thing? Is it supposed to be covered loosely with a lid? Or just a paper napkin? What container is best?
