I have been diligently feeding my starter for 14 days. Flour is scarce here and so I used unbleached white AP flour because that's what I had and al I can find. It has gotten bubbly and a bit foamy but has never doubled in size. Last night my daughter put the starter in an oven that was still warm. I came down to the kitchen probably only a half hour after the starter went in the oven and rescued it-the plastic wrap had started ro melt and the container was quite warm to the touch. The starter was a pit puffy but was about the same thickness as when I fed it earlier in the evening so I stirred it and left on on top of the stove in the chilly kitchen overnight, but this morning no bubbles. Is it time to admit that this starter is a non-starter? :/?
