Hi there, Janice! Yes, that is correct. It sounds like a bit too much flour snuck its way into your measuring cup — scooping the flour directly out of the bag or container with the measure can compact in about an extra ounce of flour. We recommend checking out the "Recipe Success Guide," link next to the ingredients header on the recipe page. You'll see that either measuring your flour by weight using a scale, or fluffing and sprinkling the flour into your measuring cup are the best ways to ensure you've got the right amount. The consistency of the starter should be similar to that of a thick pancake batter. You can adjust your starter with a bit of water until it looks like the starter pictured here.
