It sounds like you're right on track, Elena, since you're detecting the right kind of smell and also seeing bubbles below the surface. If you'd like to try to boost the activity into high gear, give it a feeding with whole wheat flour before switching back to feeding with all-purpose. The extra vitamins and minerals in the whole wheat flour might be just what your starter needs to start rising and expanding more rapidly.
