It sounds like there might be some confusion here, Gretchen. Our method for building and maintaining a sourdough starter does not involve added commercial yeast, only the wild yeast present on the flour and in the air. We do, however, often recommend adding at least some commercial yeast to your bread dough to help ensure that it gets a nice, timely rise. Leavening bread solely with a sourdough starter generally requires more time and a very vigorous starter, which can be especially challenging when you're first getting started with sourdough.
