Yes, these rolls do have a very yeasty flavor due to the large amount of yeast. The butter on top doesn't really do away with that flavor, it's rather meant to be in the recipe to mimic the yeast flavor many folks are seeking. For a less yeasty flavor, you might want to check out the Parker House Rolls, they are still quite lovely if not as fast.
