I tried this today and it was a disaster. I’m not a newbie but I was in a hurry so probably didn’t measure the flour properly. I dumped 5 cups into the mixer with a flat blade attachment and the dough seemed dry. I attached the dough hook and added 1/2 cup of flour and the dough was stiff but still added another 1/2 cup and I ended up with a dry glob that almost leaped out of the mixer bowl at me. I knew it didn’t look right but I finished following the instructions and into the oven where they sat. I brushed them with melted butter before going in the oven and they didn’t even turn brown on top. I pulled them out when they reached 190F internal temp. The result was like a crumbly breakfast biscuit and worse had no flavor.
I am sure the problem was that I didn’t measure the flour accurately but I am posting this because all the other posts made it seem simple and successful.
I’m glad I tried this on Friday after Thanksgiving instead of baking them and serving them at dinner yesterday,
