Hi K. The microwave is used briefly to start the softening process...it really does cut down on the amount of time needed in the oven. We understand that not everyone has a microwave (or wants to use one) so for those that choose to not use one, you can simply follow the remaining instructions as listed in the blog: "Place the pumpkin (or pumpkins), cut-side down, on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake in a preheated 350°F oven for about 45 minutes (for a 5-pound pumpkin), until the pumpkin's flesh is easily pierced with a fork."
