I bake mine, which give sit a rich dark color, and a really intense flavor ( much more than steaming or boiling) but I always remove the seeds first for several reasons, 1) I grow my own pumpkins and like to save some seeds for planting next year, 2) I love to roast pumpkin seeds, but to do it perfectly, they must be dried first. I think microwaving the whole pumpkin is okay, but for me it just adds another step. It is just as easy to throw it in the oven and come back in 90 minutes.
