I have been hunkering after "Fruitana" cookies for years. About once a week I have a craving for them and can never find them in the stores. They were a staple of my mother's household in the 50's, along with Fig Newtons, Hydrox, and Vienna Fingers. Oreos are imposters. It's hard for me to believe that a homemade version will approximate. Also, I don't bake. The homemade picture looks like it has sugar flakes on it. Fruitanas had nothing but a light glaze on top. There was just something about it.
The homemade ones may be great, and I may try to make them, but will they replicate the 'je ne sais quoi' of Fruitanas?
