I have ignored my sourdough starter for months, and my secret to keeping it alive is to never stir in the dark liquid. I did once and killed it - luckily my mom gave me a new sample of hers so I could start a new batch. Since then, I always pour off the ichor. And YUM, pretzels, I have to make these!
