I brushed them with the sugar water as directed and they did not look or taste pretzel like at all. I made them another time, skipping that step and instead boiling for 30 seconds in 10c water and 2/3 c baking soda, brushed with egg wash, sprinkled with salt and baked for 10-12 min at 450 and it turned out much better.
