How about unsweetened applesauce? That's pretty neutral in taste. It may be the nuts themselves that cause problems, so ask your vet before you substitute any kind of butters, they're all still nuts. You can substitute many things for shortening and moisture, but will need to fiddle with the oven temp and baking time. Pureed cooked carrot, zucchini, pumpkin all add moisture, but you might still need something for the fat part. Coconut oil has shorter chain fatty acids which are healthier for humans, at least. I am trying to think like a dog, what do they taste, what do they like? Still thinking, before I commit to baking. I have a book called "Secrets of Fat-Free Baking" that give information on the kinds of substitutions one can use, and adjustments for temps and times. But again, it's for people food.
