Our family is Ukrainian American & we always pronounced pierogi without the hard "g" sound, because the Ukrainian language uses a soft "g". So we say pirohi. Sometimes it sounds like ped-oh-heh. I laughed when I saw your translation of puddaha! Our favorite filling is mashed potato with sautéed onion & sauerkraut mixed together.
