I just found this site and am taking great comfort that there are others like me out there. I don't think I have ever made a mistake free baked good. I love baking but am so not great at it.
Tonight, I mixed all the dry ingredients together and then saw the instructions that the butter and sugar needed to be creamed togther (for cupcakes). I hope they turn out. I won't know for a while because I just sent my husband to the grocery store for the 2nd time today to get eggs and muffin liners...how could I miss those. We'll see how they turn out I guess, if I can ever complete the reciepe.
Another noteable story - I made pumpkin cookies with frozen puree pumpkin from my freezer. As I was defrosting the pumpkin and tried to move it to a glass bowl, the plastic container cracked. I thought I got all the shards of plastic out...but a friend found one in his cookie...and assumed I was trying to kill him.
As a young baker I was on a time crunch and needed to ice a double layer devils cake (which was still warm) and the top layer of the cake kept sliding off. I used (mint flavored) toothpicks diagonally to hold the 2 layers together. That was an interesting cake to eat.
