Hi Elizabeth, since this blog as photos of the batter, what you can try is to use your preferred unprocessed bran and mix up the batter as written. If it seems super dry, add more liquid until it looks like it does in the photo. You're in the realm of experimentation so it might take a few batches to develop a recipe that you enjoy, whether that means you find you want to add more sugar depends on your personal tastes.
