Every Christmas for many years my family has made a similar braided bread, filled with a prune, apple, and cinnamon filling. My mother, who made the braid for years, got the recipe from a friend, She passed it on to me and I have made it for my family for years. One Christmas, I was too busy to make it, so my son made it. It was his first yeast project, and he did such a good job that he is now the family braid maker. My dough has more butter (1-1/2 c.) and doesn't raise too much but the braid is the same.
I was wondering what you could substitute for the cream cheese in the filling, as my son doesn't like cheese (strange boy!!!!)?
