Hi Patty, I'm sorry to hear you had difficulty making this recipe! The xanthan gum we sell does not contain corn, so you may have better luck using that product than guar gum in this recipe. However, almond milk is certainly a suitable substitute for the milk called for. If the top crust was sunken this sounds like it might have risen a little too long or at too warm of a rising temperature prior to baking.
