When you say "But if you just can’t stand throwing ANYTHING away..." do you mean to stir in all of the extra liquid? I always have much more than 1/4 inch. But then I was told to feed my starter with equal amounts of water and flour as I took out. So if I use 1 cup starter, I mix in 1 cup water and 1 cup flour to the starter. Sounds like I should just be using 1/2 cup water. Barbara, pour off all but about 1/4" of liquid, then stir that in. And then feed with equal amounts, BY WEIGHT, water and flour, which would be 1 cup flour and 1/2 cup water. Make sense? PJH
