I do believe that your filling recipe is the same thing I grew up with as frosting for red velvet cake. Haven't dug out my recipe to compare the exact ingredient list but it's close. That stuff is beyond yummy! It drives me nuts when people put cream cheese icing on red velvet 'cause it's just wrong. :D Hi Gwen, Ohhh, confession time. I have never had red velvet cake. I have all the fixin's to make it, but haven't gotten there yet, and it isn't a cake you see a lot of in New England. So, I don't have a "side" to take on the icing, but I do love the cooked filling. I put some on apple pie the other night ( no ice cream in the house) and it was super! ~ MaryJane
