Debbie, this is basically a marshmallow frosting, and as such it sets up very quickly once it's spread, a challenge for decorating with. It may be worth a try to put the frosting in a pastry bag as soon as it's done; that will keep it from setting until it's piped where you want it. You can make very handsome cakes by piping the frosting in vertical "stripes" on the sides, after spreading frosting over the top. It's probably a good idea to do a practice run to get used to the way this frosting behaves. Susan
