Hi Pat! You certainly can use butter If you substitute butter for shortening in a 1:1 swap in this recipe, you may find that the cookie spreads out a bit more than preferred since butter has a lower melting point than shortening. To adjust for this, try chilling the cookie dough for at least 1 hour after scooping it to manage the spread of the cookie. Happy baking!
