I apologize for the troubles you had with this loaf and the altitude would almost certainly be the primary cause of your difficulties. I would recommend reading through our high altitude directions and beginning your alterations with those recommendations: http://www.kingarthurflour.com/recipe/high-altitude-baking.html. We unfortunately have far too many recipes for either us or our customers to be able to test and rewrite them all for altitude, but if there are any projects we need fellow baker aid with in the future, we will be sure to keep you in mind!
