Ruth---there is a cake from WW2 days called a mayonnaise cake. It's my go-to when my kids want a yummy and moist chocolate cake. It's a simple recipe- no eggs-but we love it! I use it for cupcakes, too. I have my mom's old recipe but I bet you can google a recipe for it.
