Thanks Barb, I will try adding a little more water as the starter does seem too thick. Yes my starter has been active but it does take a long time , more than is mentioned in the recipe by a couple of hours, for both rises. Although the starter all by itself doubles in less than 8 hours. I will also try the steam to try and make the top crust a little softer.
