I have been dong this for at least the last 15 years. Before retiring in the evening I combine my cold starter with about half the flour and half the water of the final dough, feed my starter, and go to bed. In the morning I add the rest of flour and water plus any other ingredients and complete the preparation. I have never had a problem.
