Your Wacky Cake went by the name of Mud Cake when I was growing up. It was often the first cake we were taught to make as children because of it's ease and reliable nature. For a special touch, we sometimes sprinkled the top with chocolate chips when it came out of the oven. After a few minutes they were soft and spreadable, making a nice "frosting" a young kid could easily produce.
