Love your blog, PJ. I have never had a pumpkin pie crack. I use the recipe for New England Pumpkin Pie on the back of the One-Pie pumpkin can and follow it pretty closely. I freeze the pie crust for about 10 minutes before adding the filling, use a crust shield throughout the baking time, and, as you suggested, always bake on the lowest rack. Never fails!
