Ah, cupcakes! I've never been able to find the likes of cupcakes I used to buy as a kid at a small downtown baker in Santa Ana, CA. The had a sort o "crumble" on top, and were slightly almond flavored, Delicious! Some sort of ground almond-sugar mixture? They had a sort of similar texture & flavor to the cake batter, too. Have you ever heard of something similar?
