I'm about to embark on making Alton Brown's epic apple pie recipe today and he puts Applejack in the crust. I would have never thought to put alcohol in the crust until he did his little demonstration in the episode so I might consider vodka next time I make pie crust instead of water. Does it have to be good vodka or doesn't it matter? I use an all shortening crust which I've never really liked so I might try the butter crust next time I make pumpkin pie.
