Cynthia, might you be trying to make your own Gingersnaps? They're packed with both molasses and ginger. You can more the cookies crispy if you use butter, softer if you use vegetable shortening. These Soft Molasses Cookies are equally delicious; it sounds like you're looking to make crispy cookies, but you could always give these a shot and bake them for an addition 2-3 minutes.
