Hi Kat, sounds like you're in a tough position with your new pizelle maker. It's difficult to flatten the pizzelles after they're baked; they tend to just squish and become slightly more dense if pressed after they've come out of the pizzelle maker. If it seems like your family won't get used to this new style of pizzelles, it might be worth returning (or gifting?) the pizelle maker and getting another that promises thin (1/8" thin) pizzelles, like this one here. You also might want to try a few other recipes in your new machine before you throw the towel in; perhaps your family can accept them as a whole new, albeit equally delicious, sweet treat! Kye@KAF
