Garlic Cheddar Biscuits

Recipe by Jonathan Brasil

These ultra-rich, garlic cheddar biscuits are perfect to pair with a meal or simply enjoy on their own. This recipe relies on garlic powder rather than fresh garlic for a concentrated yet well-rounded garlic flavor without any spiciness or pungency. There’s garlic powder in the dough itself and in the garlicky butter that gets brushed all over the warm biscuits. And with no garlic cloves to peel, no baking powder to measure (thanks to our Buttermilk Biscuit Flour Blend), and no butter to work into the dough, the recipe comes together in a flash.

  1. To make the biscuits: Preheat the oven to 425°F with a rack in the upper third. Lightly grease a baking sheet, or line with parchment.

  2. In a medium bowl, toss the biscuit flour, cheese, and garlic powder until combined. Add the cream, then mix with a flexible spatula until a compact, slightly sticky dough forms. If the dough seems dry or crumbly, add additional cream, 1 teaspoon at a time, to the dry bits at the bottom of the bowl until the dough is homogeneous.

  3. Using a mounded scone and muffin scoop or 1/4-cup measuring cup (about 94g each), scoop the dough onto the prepared baking sheet to make six mounds.

  4. Bake for 15 to 19 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.

  5. To prepare the garlic butter: While the biscuits are baking, combine all the ingredients in a small bowl.

  6. Remove the biscuits from the oven and immediately brush all over with the garlic butter. Allow the biscuits to cool for about 10 minutes before serving warm.

  7. Storage information: Any leftover garlic cheddar biscuits can be stored in an airtight container for up to 24 hours. Before serving, reheat the biscuits in a preheated 350°F oven for 10 minutes, or until warmed through.
