I actually make layered cakes in a half-sheet pan, but cut the baked cake into 4 equal rectangles. When frosting/assembling, I make certain that one “pan-rounded” corner is on each of the four corners of the layered cake. Having a rectangular cake makes it very easy to cut into 16 equal-sized pieces - something I have trouble doing with a round cake.
