"Organic" is very much a marketing gimmick. It does NOT mean "pesticide free." It means only certain pesticides used at a specific time in the past can be used on "organic" crops. Some of these are more persistent in the environment than newer pesticides and some are harmful to humans. For example, copper sulfate used to control mildew on grapes contaminates groundwater near organic vineyards. Excess copper may contribute to neurological disorders. (I haven't kept up on the research after my thesis on copper neurotoxicity was accepted in 2010, sorry.)
