Even Alexa tells me that a donut is a sweet dough typically fried in oil. A taste and texture that cannot be duplicated in an air fryer. Oven-baked "donuts" produce a tasty treat but when you end up adding frosting and sprinkles you didn't reduce the calorie factor although, you may have lowered the fat content.
I am amazed that we live in a society that tries to avoid eating "unhealthy" things but go out of their way to make "healthy" things taste like the things they are avoiding.
I live a block from Krispy Kreme so when I want a donut I drive to Dunkin'. Not that the former isn't good, I was raised a Yankee so the latter is my preference.
However, should I want to make homemade donuts I will do the oven-baked version and use my air fryer for things like meats and fries and things that do not need to be immersed in hot oil to be authentic.
