I do think, when dealing with 12-year-old boys who think only of "sugary" and store-bought strawberry flavored frosting, refrigerator biscuits work fine. For adult tastes, you are spot on. I wonder if air fryers don't get hot enough to get a raise out of the yeast doughnuts. Like King Arthur Pretzel Bites which I make in the air fryer, the doughnut holes came out superb when I push for the hottest temperature the air fryer can generate.
