We love doing this! If you are feeling extra lazy just pour all of the batter into a well-buttered frying pan and let the sides of the pan act as the ring. They rise a little less impressively than when I use a ring mold, but rise enough that they are still split-able. Let it get nice and crispy on the first side and then flip the whole thing like a pancake.
