Hi, I'm fairly new to making sourdough. I started a new starter a bit over 2 weeks ago and the last 5 days or so, when I go to feed it, there's a white powdery looking substance on top. It looks almost like dried on flour. I do a no-waste method and feed it 25g of water and 25g of Rye flour every 24 hours. Is this mold? It doesn't appear fuzzy at all. Am I not feeding it enough? One day I decided to experiment and fed it double the amount that I usually do and the next time I went to feed it, it didn't have the white stuff. Then I went back to 25g of each and it was back the next day. Do I need to restart my starter?!
