I have have been successful with my starter and bread making for the last couple baked loaves.
Until the last attempt.
The dough didn't rise very much after 14 hours and it was super sticky.
My starter was super smelly and had a fine film of black "mildew" on the sides of the jar. I don't think it was fuzzy.
My care and feeding of my starter includes:
Once a day I discard half and feed it with all purpose flour and water. If my daily feed extends beyond the 24 hours there is usually a layer of hooch. I keep it on my kitchen counter away from the oven and stove and out of direct sunlight. The rise post feeding has not been as robust as it was at first. Is my starter done? Is the black film and bad smell mold? HELP!
