Hi Candy,
It does sound like your starter is just fine, but hungry. When it becomes thin in consistency and has clear hooch on top, that's a sign that it's fermenting well and the yeast and bacteria are giving off alcohol.  Give it a good stir, and keep feeding on schedule. You can use whole wheat flour for one or two feedings to give it a boost, or stick with all-purpose still.
