Hi Sandy, if your starter is still bubbling and rising after you feed it, then it didn't die. I would continue feeding it twice a day and keep it at room temperature (rather than the oven) for the next few days, but it sounds like you grabbed it out in the nick of time! The shiny/not shiny might just have to do with more exposure to the air when you took the lid off, but I don't think it indicates a problem.
