Hi Lily, it sounds like your starter is doing what it should, and the fact that it is bubbling and rising (even a little bit) is very promising! I would be patient and continue on as you are doing, although I would try to cover your starter more securely with either plastic wrap or a lid, since you really don't want the surface of the starter to dry out. The wild yeast actually comes mostly from the flour you feed your starter, and it's not necessary for the starter to be exposed to the air in order to ferment properly.
